Maybe you need to consider becoming a winter Texan.
Around November I start seeing lots of RVs with plates from Minnesota, Wisconsin, British Columbia, Ontario, etc. in South Texas. The fishing there pretty much continues year round.
I fish a river here in central texas pretty regularly for carp though they tend to be unpredictable this time of year. During the summer through fall they tend to bite far more.
Hang in there. You'll get your chance soon enough.
I feel your pain John. I haven't touched the fly rod since last veteran's day (Nov 11). I touched a fish on Monday, but perch/walleyes through the ice is not the same as getting some tail spalsh from a caught and released carp. hang in there

Part of it is me being a carp snob. There is plenty of great fishing year round in OR, but I long for warm days, shallow water and feeding carp!
Local stuff should be heating up in 30 days, and the big C is probably 2-3 months away...
You should move to MN and fish my winter carp waters with me. You've seen documented Jan/Feb carp caught on the fly.
True J...having small dams like that really helps. Makes for some fun "grab bag" spring fishing too!
Opportunity exists here in OR, but Dec. and Jan. can be TOUGH for carp. I should have resorted to some steelhead fishing.
