This little sucker has been deadly of late. I have been fishing it mainly in a size 12.

Can you post the recipe?

it is pretty simple. olive marabou tail, olive ostrich herl body, mottled rubber legs, grizzly hackle palmered forward, and a 4-6 strands of peacock herl as a shellback. I tie them all with dumbell eyes to help the sink rate. not much to it, but it works well!

what kind of hooks do you generally use on your ties

thanks for the recipe

standard nymph hooks...i prefer tiemco but picked up around 10,000 dai richis in an estate sale this winter so i'm using those. i tie this one in 10s and 12s, and tie a version with an oragne tail and brown body in 6s and 10s.

I should post my crawdaddy pattern, but I'm not as ready to give it up as you are here... pretty generous of you. That is a cool fly you picture in this post - my 4-4 pattern is modeled after your fly, so I can't really say I own the pattern. I think I'll name it that though 4-4.

put up a picture j...the pattern only gets a guy partway there...catching a carp on the fly is about a lot more than the pattern. at least email me a pic!

i concentrate on getting the fly to sink within a foot of the fish's mouth. they usually ease forward as soon as it hits bottom. this fly has worked well for cruisers and fish that are in the middle of weed beds as well. i just get it in front of them, and they usually eat it before i can start a retrieve. carp fishing to me is 100% sight fishing, so the retrieve is less important than an initial, accurate presentation.

No wire rib to protect that hackle and herl from those vicious carp teeth?

10s and 12s? That seems so small. I'm tying some tonight. No ostrich herl, but I have some olive chinelle.
