Not much to this fly

Again...been thinking simplify this year. Basic, basic pattern and shape in a bunch of colors. This color (black and orange chenille) was money last time out.

No need to comment on what a crap tier I am...I am well aware, but I bet you a dozen donuts carp will eat this sucker.

Carp are much less picky than we are!

John,
Did you used to write a different fishing blog (or pre cursor to the blog) back in the late 90's/early 2000's? I could swear I read an article (series of them?) about fishing willamette valley ponds for panfish. That fly there resembles one I read about, peacock body, couple hackle turns, and red thread head. I think the article mentioned that the red thread turned out to be a vital part of the fly? I think the author was tooling around in an old VW van, and I could've sworn the author was "John Montana".

Neat flies regardless. I was inspired to tie up a similar fly for panfish from that article, only difference is that I use three tips of peacock herl as a tail, sort of like a zug bug.

Fish'll eat 'em for sure.

Not me mark...if you poked around on west fly a few years ago you might have heard of the wilted spinach...a trout fly I swore by back before I turned to the real dark side. I tied it with red thread so it would bleed through the dubbing. I use red thread a lot.
